Announcing New Journeys

We are thrilled to share that we have programmed several new Journeys that will be scheduled in the upcoming months. When we launched the site, we decided that we wanted 6-months worth of Journeys online, programmed, and available for registration. We’re glad we did that because people can pick or choose what interests them, and plan accordingly. Not everyone can join every journey.

Some of these have some disclaimers. Some will depend on what we expect (or hope) to be released in the coming months, but there is no guarantee, and what is available for streaming today may not be available 6-months from now

These will be in our back pocket, and we have tentative dates that are listed below, but we reserve the right to make changes depending on what happens. These will all be announced independently when we launch registration. January and February are extremely likely.

January 2025 – SirkenHeimer

As we noted when announcing Free Journeys, we like using “Heimer.” We are starting the year with Sirkenheimer, which begins with Douglas Sirk’s All that Heaven Allows and the spiritual “remakes” (which are almost re-imaginings by Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Todd Haynes. We are also pairing each director with another film from their library that we feel complements the primary selections, plus an optional film from the same director.

Chapter One – Douglas Sirk: All That Heaven Allows, Magnificent Obsession (Optional: Written on the Wind)

Chapter Two – Rainer Fassbinder: Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant (Optional: Fox and His Friends)

Chapter Three – Todd Haynes: Far From Heaven, Carol (Optional: May December)

February 2025 – Christopher Guest

We’ve decided that Februarys are all about fun. We loved this year’s MartinReinerHeimer (Steve Martin and Carl Reiner films), so we are going to spend February diving into the Christopher Guest world, which we know goes to 11.

Chapter One –  This Spinal Tap, Chip Dimentabella, Don’t Get Me Started, Waiting for Guffman

Chapter Two Best in Show, A Mighty Wind

Chapter ThreeFor Your Consideration, Mascots

March 2025 – Japanese Samurai (assumes Seven Samurai 4K is out)

This is our first journey with a major disclaimer. A Seven Samurai 4k restoration will be touring (here’s the trailer and it looks amazing). We feel that this has to be included, although we’re ready to pivot with Yojimbo and Sanjuro instead.

Chapter One – The Samurai Trilogy

Chapter Two – Seven Samurai

Chapter Three – Harakiri, Sword of Doom

April 2025 – French Films

Chapter One – Poetic Realism: Lady Killer, Grand Illusion/Rules of the Game

Chapter Two – French New Wave: The Soft Skin, Cleo from 5 to 7

Chapter Three – 80s and 90s: Pauline at the Beach, La Ceremonie,

We are planning the following although not quite ready to schedule yet:

FrankenHeimerHeimer

Chapter One – Paranoia Trilogy: The Manchurian Candidate, Seven Days in May, Seconds

Chapter Two – The Train, Ronin

Chapter Three – Black Sunday, 52 Pick-Up

There will be many more, and there could be surprises swapped in depending on what happens with film in the next several months.
