It is my pleasure to announce that Adrian Martin is joining CineJourneys as a Guide. You can view his Guide page here, with a lovely and cinematic photo of him in Paris.
Adrian has been involved with film studies for decades as a writer, teacher, and frequent contributor to physical media releases. Many of his commentaries are listed on his Wikipedia page. He contributed the commentary to 2024’s BFI Seven Samurai release, which is widely considered to be among the best of the year. As it happens, I recently was able to guest on a podcast talking about the March Imprint releases, where his most recent commentary can be found for In the Bedroom, which happens to be among my favorite films.
Adrian is native to Australia and now resides in Malgrat de Mar, Spain, having taught film at Monash University. He continues to conduct film classes elsewhere, and is planning on covering numerous topics here at CineJourneys. He is currently collecting ideas for what he’ll cover. We have been able to talk, and his ideas are both plentiful and wonderful. Generally if I’m excited about an online cinema class, our members will be as well.
I’ll vaguely share that he plans to pair two filmmakers as a comparison and contrast. Both of them worked in Europe prior to migrating to Hollywood, and became among the finest directors in Classic Hollywood history. Adrian will share the names of these two auteurs soon, as he plans to begin the class in a few months. We’ll have a chance to chat in the meantime, so expect to hear a podcast about his upcoming plans in the near future.
