Those who have frequented CineJourneys over the last couple of weeks know that I’m writing a book about A24. It is called “The A24 New Wave” and we have a Kickstarter campaign in progress to fund it. You can read a lot of details about the book there, so I’m going to share here how this relates to CineJourneys and where we expect this to take us.
First off, if it weren’t for CineJourneys, this project would not have gotten off the ground in the first place. It started with an idea that I bounced off Mark Hurne around the time of our Awards Season Journey last year. That was eventually released on our YouTube channel and can be seen here. The idea continued to percolate, and I had yet another conversation about it, this time with Rodney Wade and can be seen here. Mark and Rodney are not just friends of the show, but personal friends, and genuinely great people. I appreciate their indulging me as I basically threw some ideas at them and asked if I was on to something.
One day I began writing, and then writing, and at some point I had a couple hundred pages. We then learned that in order to take this from the written word to the printed word, we had to publish. We didn’t want to give this book to a publisher, and instead are using it to launch CineJourneys Press. That will include other books, whether from me and Jill, or one of the wonderful Guides.The A24 book is the first of many.
We also couldn’t do this without Caitlin Kuhwald, who has already completed the beautiful cover. We’ll be working with Carl Edward Petrosyan on the book layout.
Here is a timeline of all things related to the book and Kickstarter:
- Stretch goals announced – TBD but most likely soon.
- May Queen illustration ready – TBD but most likely soon.
- Other sketches and illustrations ready – TBD. We expect all sketches and one more full illustration by the end of the campaign.
- February 27th – Livestream from 5pm to 8pm EST during the final hours of the campaign.
- April – Digital rewards sent and beginning of A24 Journey
- August (August?) – Expected manuscript to be ready with printing and shipping plans.
- October – Awards fulfillment
- TBD – A24 Online Class. This will be part of the Kickstarter perks and will be available for registration. This class will use The A24 New Wave as the “textbook.”
