This lecture will be held on April 12th, 2025. Dr. Caraceni will lecture for 45 minutes and then take questions. She will look at Alasdair Gray’s 1992 Poor Things, and how both it and Lanthimos’ films were influenced by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
Dr. Caraceni will explore how these works inform the film. She will discuss the philosophy of the film, how it portrays power dynamics and gender roles. She will talk about the sources/texts and also getting into a little bit of theory. This should be an informative and rewarding discussion of the film Poor Things and how Lanthimos adapted the source material.
