Derek Smith is a Los Angeles-based film critic with a Masters Degree in Film Studies from Chapman University and undergrad degree from Wake Forest University. He’s a member of the Online Film Critics Society and his writing can be found primarily at Slant Magazine, with other bylines at Spectrum Culture, Tiny Mix Tapes, and the long defunct Cinematic Reflections over the past 20 years. His cinematic interests are all over the map, including everything from French and Japanese cinema to Pre-code Hollywood, films noir, westerns, Looney Tunes, and 70s Italian genre films. He hails from the suburbs of Philadelphia, now works in post-production and resides with his beloved wife, Amanda, and spoiled pug, Margo Channing.
