Code of Conduct

At CineJourneys, everyone is welcome. Everyone is included. We do not ask or discriminate against opinions. There are some topics and opinions that we ask not to be discussed here, out of respect for other people in our community.

Politics Within Context of Films – Everyone has political opinions, and of course we are aware that it is currently a volatile political atmosphere. Our intention for CineJourneys is for it to be a means to having constructive, enjoyable and intellectually stimulating conversations. This is not the place to debate political views or even discuss them. However, we don’t want to bubble wrap the way we talk about films. Anyone who has studied film knows that the political atmosphere informs everything. Whether that’s Frankenheimer’s Paranoia Trilogy or a Sean Baker film. We will be discussing these subjects and ask people to be respectful and considerate about others.

Human Rights Are Not Political – While we do not want politics discussed here, basic human rights are not political topics. We have a diverse community. When talking about film, we will often talk about representation and inclusion. Sometimes with classic film, that means we have to look at stereotypes and biases, and how those are portrayed on the screen. As an example, gender identity is important to people and we ask that people respect words and pronouns that are part of someone’s identification. We reserve the right to remove members that support anti-human rights organizations like ICE that aggressively shut down human rights.

Hate Speech – Any hateful, disparaging comments are not acceptable here at CineJourneys. We have a zero tolerance policy for bigotry, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, religious/spiritual discrimination, and ableism.

Harassment – We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to the harassment of our members, guides, or the creators.

Films are Subjective – We value film opinions even when we disagree. There is no such thing as a wrong opinion. As Ryan at Disc-Connected likes to say, every film is someone’s favorite. We respect that. We do not allow gatekeeping or snobbery regarding people’s taste. It is okay to have a discussion, not agree, and walk away as friends.

Polite Conversations – We expect members of CineJourneys to conduct themselves politely whether they are on our website forums Discord chat, a Journey or Online class, or any other means of communication.

While we need rules to ensure our community is a safe space, we ask people to have fun, enjoy the company of others, and use this as an escape. Movies are entertainment. This is a safe space for everyone as long as everyone respects this space.
