It has been an exciting month so far when it comes to Awards Season and Best of 2024!
So far what we’re seeing from the critics awards and ceremonies/nominations, is that there does not appear to be any clear frontrunner. There are numerous films in contention, and while Anora won the Palme d’Or and has a good chance for Best Actress, Best Director, and possibly Best Picture, there are plenty other films in the conversation. The Brutalist, Nickel Boys, Conclave and even Emilia Perez have received recognition. Even The Substance is getting more awards attention than a lot of people expected. There are some strong negative responses to some potential nominees, so this promises to be an engaging and invigorating season. As usual, we will respect all opinions whether they are negative or positive.

Last year our Awards Season was one of the more enjoyable journeys. The engagement was high and we had some thoughtful conversations. This was before we had the website, Hub, and we weren’t publishing podcasts and videos as regularly. This year we have a lot more tools at our disposal, and we’ll use this to make for an even better experience navigating the films in contention.
One big change from this year to last year is that the price is free. This is a community driven Journey, and it will go the way you all want it to go.
So far we have several scheduled calls, live chats, and are thinking about live events. If there is enough interest, we can watch short films on our Discord, listen to nominated songs and soundtracks, and possible have live watches. We’ll have calls that will discuss some of the films as they gain and lose momentum, and as they are released in more theaters and streaming services.
Our first call will be Wednesday, December 18th at 7pm. We will discuss the top ten consensus films by that point, some of the early critics choices, the Golden Globes, Independent Spirits, and any other topics of interest.
